Homework and News Week of September 18, 2017
“Meeting Challenges” - Question of the week - How do people survive in the wilderness? Dear parents / guardians, We are settling into our routines our first full week of school. We continue to talk about and notice students practicing Guiding Principles as we build a safe, respectful classroom for all. Our days are busy! In math, students in 5th grade are working hard multiplying and dividing by powers of 10, calculating metric conversions, and comparing and rounding decimals. In literacy we are reading about different types of challenges people face and how they respond to them. We began a social studies unit called “We Care” and are learning about empathy and noticing how others express different feelings. Students are reading with first graders on Friday afternoons and will soon be assigned a special buddy for the year! Have a lovely week! Events: Open House - New Date is Sept. 28 - 5:30-6:30 Sincerely, Karen DiIorio-Bowen, kdiiorio-bowen@ws...
Literacy Theme – What kinds of challenges do people face and how do they meet them?
ReplyDeleteDear parents / guardians,
We are off to a wonderful start to the school year reviewing Guiding Principles and getting to know each other! We read together “The Sense of a Goose.” Please ask your child what geese do when they fly and how this relates to building our class community. We are a group of kind, responsible, hard working, and fun learners! Many thanks to all for the effort in completing first week paperwork! This week a Parent Survey will come home with your child. Please answer the questions and return. Please note my email below and feel free to contact me anytime. It is extremely helpful for me to know about my students’ lives in order to teach in more meaningful ways and engage them in learning. Parents and teachers working together make a strong supportive team for our young learners!
